Superfast Cymru

Residents and Businesses in Blaenau Gwent will be amongst the first in Wales

to benefit from the pioneering multimillion pound programme Superfast Cymru,

to bring nationwide fibre broadband to Wales. Fibre broadband is the next

generation of broadband - much faster, more reliable and it uses a different

technology. Whilst traditional broadband is delivered via copper telephone

lines, fibre broadband uses fibre optic cable. This will have the power to

transform the life, work and play of citizens across Blaenau Gwent. What's

more, Superfast broadband will boost the economy locally, enabling

businesses to work more effectively in new ways and reach out to new

customers. All six telephone exchanges which serve Blaenau Gwent are

scheduled to be upgraded to provide fibre services; these include Ebbw Vale,

Tredegar, Blaina, Cwm, Brynmawr and Abertillery exchange areas.

If you are a resident of Blaenau Gwent, register your interest on the Superfast

Cymru website, www.superfast-cymru.com, to be kept in the loop and you will

get an e-mail when fibre broadband becomes available to you. Once you've

checked your line to confirm fibre broadband is available to you, it's much the

same as ordering normal broadband. There are a number of different Internet

Service Providers (ISPs) offering the service, so you can just shop around and

choose the best deal for you. Areas of Tredegar and Ebbw Vale will be the

first communities in Blaenau Gwent to be able to access this new service

during July 2013. Other communities including Brynmawr, Cwm and

Abertillery will follow during September 2013 and Blaina exchange area will

have fibre deployed by early 2014.
